Tyrah Cooper-Monroe

Tyrah’s Story

My name is Tyrah Monique Cooper-Monroe, and I am seventeen years old. I am the only daughter of Latonya Cooper and Dominique Monroe. I am an individual who is perseverant, intelligent, athletic, and a very hard working student. I have demonstrated perseverance in many ways.

There’s one particular time in my life where it was inevitable that I persevere to accomplish all of my goals and be successful. During my years as a student at Huffman High School, I was put through many trials and tribulations. My goals were to make A’s & B’s in all of my honor classes, get accepted into the National Honor Society, remain an amazing athlete, all while maintaining my 3.9 GPA. Due to the amount of stress caused by trying to accomplish all of my goals, I reached a point where I wanted to give up. It seemed as though my schedule was too clustered. I didn’t even have time to enjoy myself or even rest at times. Even though I wanted to give up, I was determined, had self-confidence, self-motivation, dedication, and courage. I knew for a fact that giving up was not an option. I knew that I had to push myself if no one else did. As a result of my decisions to persevere through the obstacles, I was successful. My final grades were all A’s & one B, I was accepted into the National Honor Society, I remained an incredible athlete even till this day, and my GPA remained a 3.9. (top 6 of my class).

Not only have I faced many trials and tribulations dealing with my academics and extracurricular activities but in my personal life as well. Growing up, my mother was diagnosed with MG which is a muscle and nerve condition. Being her only child, I have to assist her with multiple things and take care of her when she isn’t feeling well and attend to her when she is in the hospital for her monthly infusions This has caused me to become more independent, resourceful, able to work well under pressure, and very mature for my age. Despite the troubles I face and have faced, I still remain determined, focused and motivated to excel in school and in sports.

I hope to be selected to attend college because I am a hard-working, self-driven, motivated, intelligent, passionate, and committed individual who is willing to work hard and accomplish any task I am given. I will work hard to accomplish the task at hand, and I will work hard to be the best at what I do. I hope to bring inspiration, creativity, innovation, and integrity to any college or university I attend. Not only do I want to gain knowledge from a university but I also want to learn to be a better communicator and learn to help individuals as well. I intend to become a better me than the me I am now at college.
