Amber Watts

Amber's Story

I’ve always been very hardworking, and determined to succeed in life. Growing up, I didn't have my father around, and my mom raised me and my two sisters on her own. My father not being a part of my life has made me the strong person that I am today. It has driven me to make my mom proud, and to not focus on the things that I don’t have, but to strive harder towards my personal goals for my future. This situation has also made me grateful for everything that I have, and to focus on the future, rather than my past. In my future, I have a huge dream. I believe that when you speak things into existence and also dream big, you will be able to pursue an abundant amount of opportunities that will push you towards your goals. Going through high school, the thought of attending college was constantly on my mind. I started asking myself, “What should I major in ?” and "What college should I choose?” But now, since I’ve been doing my research, I know what I want to do in life.

Ever since I was a child, I have always wanted to travel the world and help others. My career goal is to major in business management, with a minor in hospitality and tourism. I believe attending college will help me accomplish these goals. Going to school for business management is going to allow me to be able to travel internationally, so that I can explore the world while earning money. Having a minor in hospitality will also open doorways for me to work in different types of island resorts, learning how to assist people with their needs, and become an event manager to hone my management skills.

My friends and family always describe me as a determined, smart, helpful, hard working, joyful, and kind person. My family describes me as a determined person because I never give up on anything, no matter how hard things may get. As far as my friends, they describe me as a helpful person, because I always have a desire to help others when they are in need. As well as being in organizations like National Honor Society, has also given me great leadership skills.

Volunteering and interacting with people has made me the person that I am today. I’ve given back to my community in many ways, spending most of my time volunteering in various places. For an example, attending elementary schools to read books during the holidays. Attending “Boo at the Zoo” and interacting with kids during Halloween. Volunteering at the Birmingham Crossplex for swim meets. Interacting with special needs students around my school, as well as helping the teachers throw parties for them during the holidays. Donating to the homeless, and also giving out presents to the kids around the community. Anything I do, I take great pride in it, and I put forth major effort within the things that I am involved in. I have often learned who I am through the feedback of those around me. My friends and family always describe me as a kindhearted person who loves to stay active and give back to my community.
